Healthy Snacks at Nellie Muir
Nellie Muir Elementary School is committed to being a healthy school. After analyzing the healthy party survey (given out at conferences) we found that there was overwhelming support for having healthier parties (289 YES votes to 16 NO votes). For this reason we have now created new building practices which are as follows:

Effective January 9, 2013, Nellie Muir school will only allow foods from the "Healthy Snack List" and/or foods that have been pre-approved by the office staff (using Alliance for a Healthier Generation criteria) to be brought in for all parties and celebrations. Foods not pre-approved on the "Healthy Snack List" will not be accepted. As an exception, there will be two parties per year (determined by the teacher) where students will be allowed to bring pre-packaged foods of their own choice.

We are committed to supporting healthy choices at school. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at (503) 982-4300. Thank you.

Healthy Kids Plan Open to Uninsured Children

Healthy Kids is expanding Oregon's child health coverage options for working families to provide options for uninsured children. Healthy Kids provides access to health care in three ways: 1) No-cost option through the Oregon Health Plan (OHP); 2) Low-cost options through cost-share models; and 3) Full-cost options through newly-created state-sponsored private insurance plans – depending on family income.

For more information, or to apply for coverage for Oregon children, visit www.oregonhealthykids.gov.
